Action A3

Receptor modelling (RM) as a support for uncertainty analysis and reduction
An overview of the available BU in geographically distributed regions of interest (Southern Poland, Barcelona and Po Valley) inventories, as well as the comparison of TD and BU approaches, will be accomplished. Also, available TD inventories will be analyzed for all The scope of this action is to compare the source apportionment (SA) information obtained by source-oriented dispersion modelling (SMs) and receptor modelling (RMs) and integrate them as much as possible in order to increase the level of knowledge reducing the existing uncertainties of the SMs approach. The use of RM to support uncertainty estimates and reduction of the SMs modelling will be carried out in Milan, Barcelona and Krakow for the year 2017.
Expected results
The comparison between CTM and PMF will allow:
– Identifying gaps in the emission inventory, both concerning missing source categories (e.g. traffic resuspension, solid fuel burning for domestic heating etc.), underestimated emission factors (e.g. residential wood combustion, cooking, solvents) or unprecise temporal activity profile.
– Identify the causes of non-modelled mass of PM and of specific components (e.g. OC)
– Apportion the non-modelled fraction of PM and specific components
– Verify the correctness of chemical modules, mostly concerning the gas-to-particle conversion of semi-volatile compounds.
